Kinesio-Taping. Our office has two Advanced certified Kinisiotaping specialists. The Kinesio Taping Method enhances the body’s natural healing process and provides support through the muscles. This taping is not the same as KT tape or Spider tape. It is a unique tape with the properties of skin, not found in the other tapes that were produces as “knock offs’ of Kinesio-tape. Kinesio taping was founded by Dr. Keno Kase, a Chiropractor. Dr. Kase bases his techniques on three important concepts. They are Space, Movement and Cooling. Muscles that are painful and/or inflamed lack space. When the KTM technique is applied to create space, it is helpful in and of itself, but also leads to the opportunity for improved movement and circulation.
By targeting different receptors within the somatosensory system, the KTM alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas. Many years of research and practitioner observations have shown that the effects of Kinesio Taping may include not only physiological but neurological and psychological benefits as well.
